Mike Moore was named editor of The Jessamine Journal in December 2005.
He began his newspaper career as staff writer covering news for the Phenix Citizen in Phenix City, Ala., before moving to Corbin where he served as sports writer and then sports editor at the Times-Tribune. He also spent some time in Pikeville as the editor of the Appalachian News-Express.
His primary beat is the city of Nicholasville.
Moore has garnered several awards through the Mississippi and Kentucky Press Assocations during his career.
He is a member of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors and the Bluegrass Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He currently serves as vice president of the Bluegrass Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
He is also a graduate of Leadership Jessamine County and the Nicholasville’s Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.
Prior to his newspaper career, Moore, a North Carolina native, spent six years in the United States Air Force and four years in the Air Force Reserve. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Turkey, Texas, Mississippi and Florida.
